The earlier a deaf child has full access to language, the better everything afterwards goes. Families can begin with Ready to Learn from birth. Admission to the school is based on a severe or profound hearing loss and is approved by the New York State Education Department, and our Pupil Personnel Services department guides families through every step of it.

Nothing explains this school as quickly as standing in a room where the adults sign. Tell us what language you use at home and we will arrange interpretation so the visit is in your language, not ours.

For infants and toddlers.
A free, state-funded, family-centered program for deaf and hard-of-hearing children from birth to age three. Sessions run in English, Spanish and ASL, and we bring in a spoken-language interpreter when a family speaks another language. Free transportation is available to families in the five boroughs.
In your language, from the start.
Family Resource & Language Services arranges interpretation for families throughout a child’s enrollment, and works to keep an atmosphere of acceptance and respect for the home languages and cultures our students bring.
There is no tuition.
Lexington is a state-supported 4201 school. Students attend for free, with tuition paid by their local school district, and that is true at every level from preschool through high school. Families are not billed and there is no financial-aid application to fill in.
Admission is based on a severe or profound hearing loss and must be approved by the New York State Education Department. Students must live in one of the five New York City boroughs or in Nassau County. Pupil Personnel Services helps families submit the PHC-10 form to the State Education Department and explains what each step is for.
Please do not rule your child out because the paperwork looks heavy. Call us and we will walk you through it, in your language if that is easier. Nothing about asking commits you to anything.
