A closer look at Ready to Learn
Ready to Learn is a free, state-funded, family-centered program for infants and toddlers (ages 0-3) identified as deaf or hard-of-hearing. It provides parents with the support and knowledge they need to guide and enrich their child's development. The program focuses on language and communication, and also addresses preschool readiness: gross motor, fine motor, social-emotional and self-help skills. Ready to Learn offers communication in spoken language and/or sign language, and supports each family's desire to develop communication in the child's home language. Sessions are conducted in English, Spanish and/or American Sign Language, and when other languages are spoken the program enlists the help of a spoken language interpreter.
